History of the city of Melbourne, Florida

Melbourne is known to be one of the most beautiful places in the State of Florida. Like any other place, they have this grand history that made it have the things that they are enjoying right now. Melbourne is said to be the “two cities that became one”. Apart from the rich culture that it has, they have said that it was once two cities that were separated by the Indian River Lagoon having many settlers attracted to live in the place. There have been many stories about the history of Melbourne and everything that has been attached information for it.

The city had begun to prosper half a century after the 1800’s. This is when the population the area bloomed and they act differently due to the diversion of people building the communities in the city of Melbourne. There are some instances that made the city more and more interesting like what happened in the year 1969 when the city of Melbourne and Eau Gallie were combined in one government that made the modern City of Melbourne today. It had made it to a point that the Melbourne today will still mirror the old cities from where it originated from. Today they have the two old downtown areas called Historic Downtown Melbourne and Olde Eau Gallie that each has all the most exciting attractions and historical specialty shops that features the native products of each town.

Many of the buildings in Melbourne was conducted and built during the 1800’s when wooden buildings were made and having clustered in the north of Melbourne Harbor along the Front Street. There are also some piers that were constructed in the Lagoon area of the city making it more strengthened with the traders and travelers going in and out of the city.

The combined area was named Melbourne City eight long years after the two towns were strengthened and established. This name was urgently made and thought of due to the urgency of the post office that is serving a lot of families in the city. It was R.W. Goode who named Melbourne to the city. Although many names were suggested, picked the straw containing the name Melbourne and that was how they got and agreed with the name of their city.

During the year 1942, the Melbourne Naval Air Station was said to be appointed as the operational training unit during the World War II. Today, it is now the station of the Melbourne International Airport.

There are many great things that the history of Melbourne has gone through for all the years that they have been. It made the rich and most significant part of Melbourne having all the most of the things that made it great for historical traveling. The history of Melbourne made the most part of the city colorful. Being originated from two cities, one can see the unity in the place which is very plausible for the city’s established government then and today.
